Ao Lua Ha Dong is a heartbreaking epic wartime tragedy, simply one of the best Vietnamese films made yet, with superb acting, a melancholic score, lovely cinematography and sumptuous costumes. Despite being only made for about 1-2 million dollars, it looks much more expensive although it's evident that at times some technical aspects could have been polished a bit more (notably sound and certain parts of the score) as well as the promo (text in the trailer, so on so forth). Already it has won prize after prize at many international film festivals (as of now this includes the Golden Kites back home, the audience award at the Pusan International Film Festival in South Korea, the Kodak Vision Award at the Fukuoka Film Festival, and the highly regarded Golden Rooster awards in China). It has also been selected to represent Vietnam at the 2008 Oscars in the "Best foreign film" category
